From what I've seen those chipsets for fw are all based on via, not T-I...
They are usually ohci compliant though...

Ramy, check out ADK or such, when it comes to laptops, most of these vendors like hp, dell, toshiba, because of the pricing for laptop parts will use as cheap components as they can, just so they can sell it at a lower price. In
the audio world you can't cut corners, it's something I always have to
remind my customers when I'm building their systems, for heavy duty stuf
like gaming, graphix and audio and high performance systems one low quality
spec item will unbalance the whole rig. For example, 7200 rpm drivers for
laptops are available, all be it that they do cost a bit more. So
manufacturers are still including 5400 drives just so they can keep the
price down by say a hundred bucks or so. Unless you can customize somewhat
of what goes into the laptop, something that dell and I believe hp let's you do when buying from their site, you are better off with a desktop or getting
a custom one from adk. It will be about the same price. For example, I
bought a custom dell latitude d810 back a few years ago and I customized it with the drive I wanted and such, and it cost me around $1700. For that same amount adk could probably have sold me a comparable system, even though this
dell still kicks butt and it was where I started my studio, but had I gone
with an off the shelf system, I would not have been able to run it like I
did...

I agree with djx, nice off the shelf office
machine, but I don't like the shared video or the vista operating system.

If you want real guaranteed performance, go get a laptop designed for audio.

It'd be better if you had a 7200 rpm drive.

YOu don' know what chipset that firewire port is,
if it ain't texas instruments, you'll have
trouble with your m-audio 1814 probably.

Spend the money now for the right stuff, then you
won't have headaches and regrets for something that won't work right.
