I agree with Reg. If it is the mother board that is the problem, the information installed on the hard drive should be fine. The person may be absolutely correct, but I would definitely get a second opinion before I would expect to have all of my data and programs destroyed. ________________________________________ From: real-eyes-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [real-eyes-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Reginald George [sgeorge@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2009 12:23 PM To: real-eyes@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [real-eyes] Re: sick computer Saying nothing could be saved doesn't sound right. Even if the board died the hard drive might be fine. Did he say that before or after looking at it. Second opinion maybe? Wonder if he really wanted to work on it. How far away is the shop? There's a Computers Plus on 64th St. up north that's Share Fareable, but call them to make sure they do laptops. Yes, it's worth fixing with the 104 key keyboard and all. That was a pretty good system. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cathy Pyper" <cpyper@xxxxxxxxx> To: <real-eyes@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2009 10:46 AM Subject: [real-eyes] sick computer Hello, My lap top died. It would come on but there was nothing there. I was told it was the mother board and he thought it would cost about $200 .00 plus $75.00 to install. Plus another $25.00 for it to be taken out there and then brought home. I was told that he could not save any of the information and everything would have to be installed. It's only two years old. It Windows Vista. Does this sound right? I would need to pay someone to install everything all over again as well. I really like that lap top but is it worth putting this kind of money in to it? Thank you for any advice.
