Actually when you enter task bar and start menu properties by pressing
application, then R you will land on the task bar page. You can control tab
once to get to the start menu page and then you will be on the radio buttons
for start menu or classic start menu.

Here are the steps:

1) Press the Windows key to bring up the Start Menu.

2) Press ESC to close the menu but leave focus on the Start Button.

3) Press the Application Key to bring up the context menu for the
Start Button.

4) Press R for Properties. This will put you in the Start Menu tab of
the Properties dialog box. The focus should be on the Start Menu type.
Use the DOWNARROW key to change between Start Menu and Classic Start
Menu.

5) Tab to the OK button and press ENTER. Now your Start Menu will
look more like the Start Menu in Windows 98.

HTH!

Reg,

This is true if you leave the menus set to the XP style. However, if
you set the Start Menu to Classic, the programs you use do not show up
in the Start Menu. But, the tip you gave regarding pinning to the
Start
Menu does still work under either style.

Usually, JAWS reads fine with the XP style of Start Menu, but not
always. I've had a few problems with that style and so usually set up
to use the Classic style of Start Menu instead.

Another way is to find the icon you want under all programs, press the

appplications key, and arrow down to pin to start menu and press
enter.
 On
the new start menu for XP by default everything you open under all
programs
shows up on the front of the start menu anyway until you get to a
certain
number. Then the oldest ones disappear. If you pin it to the start
menu
though, it stays.

Question: I just got a new laptop, and wonder how I can go about
putting
various icons, such as Outlook, on my start menu, so that when I hit
the
windows key and hit down arrow, that particular icon comes up/is
listed.
What is the best way to place these icons on start up?

Kimberly

You mean this laptop has no place for 3 and a half inch floppies?????
