And vacuum tubes ;-), roger roger.
When I was working the Radar jobs up in Alaska, we referred to these as
"Vacuum FETs" ...
When I worked for a wholesale electronics parts supply company, we
always knew that some company had a new person in purchasing when they
called in an order for a "Dee-Ten-Dee Ee" (Diode) or some "Grid Leak
Bias" in the paste can. (A similar product to "Striped Flagpole Paint",
or "Left-handed board stretcher")
A favorite of my uncle was to order a drip pan for a grid leak.
But a favorite of mine was a computer techie who teased a new techie by
sending the new one to the medical department for two feet of fallopian
tubing. The nurses got a good laugh out of that.
