That's what I do, although I use a white plastic artist's palate.

At the moment the limiting factor is the lack of enough magnification. I 
wear nylon gloves and rest my hands on the print, using my left and to 
steady the brush just above the bristles, at least that's what I do if I 
have to be very precise.
