Hi !
I do not think this is as good news as it seems.
First, the plant was sold and is leased to the new Ilford Photo company. This
will imply high running costs (as it was an old one, most of it was already
paid for) and will impair the ability of the new company to produce at
competitive prices. Keep in mind that the market has begun to re organize, and
that Agfa Photo got, at least in Europe, a part of the previous Ilford market
share on papers and chemicals. Tetenal has put its troops in the chemical
field, and the disapearing of Ilford powdered chemicals (ID 11 etc.... ) will
put Ilford photo at risk. I even wonder what Champion manufacturing will imply
in term of prices on the former Ilford products.
Next, the marketing companies outside the UK are seeking a new owner.... and are
for sale. What do you think of a company having no distribution path ? Will it
sell ? I do not think so. International trade is difficult to implement, and
more difficult to maintain.
So I _do_ hope that Ilford will be a success but the path is not paved with
flowers...

BTW, the Freelists software sucks. The "rephrasing" it does for unknown reasons
is more than annoying. It breaks legibility, WWW links and search engines.
Wondefull !
Regards.
