WD-40 isn't even good oil it's mostly penetrants that move around inside
the shutter and gum up the works. When a pro lubricates a shutter he
doesn't spray, drip, dunk or spatter. At most he uses a tiny bit of
proper oil on the tip of a very fine brush applied just to the pivot,
and a lot of shutters were made to run dry, Ilex made a few.

Noooooooo. You never oil a shutter because it accumulates crud from the residue. You clean shutters with naptha because it leaves minimal residue.

Hi!
Before sending off my Commercial-Congo 210mm/4.5 in Copal #3
shutter to Grimes, Inc., I had the thought: they are going to fix it,
why not shoot some WD-40 in it? It will probably cost north of $200 anyway.
I'm a wise fool! It worked. The slow speeds are now working and
the 2 bills are still in my pocket.
To the wise: don't try this!
I think all the chatter on the frig lite helped! Thanks everyone!
Best. Rich
