The fridge is a Faraday Cage and you'd get terrible service inside the
chillbox. So now we can test cellphone reception in the fridge as well
as the light.

Well, I thought I'd just cut to the chase by doing the obvious: I've removed all the food and racks from the fridge, climbed in and pulled the door closed with a string. The light is off. That settles that.
I'm writing this by the light of the smart phone. As it's battery is failing, someone please phone the fire dept, emergency services, as I'm cold and breathing rather shallowly.
