Sodium Carbonate - washing soda, Arm and Hammer also available at pool
suppliers as a PH adjustment chemical. Amidol, I joined a group purchase
that has the stuff shipped from China, was not the best and my supply is all
gone :(

The only place I can find that lists Amidol is the Photographers Formulary -
alas no shipping out of the US. Maybe make a trip south and stock up?

Bogdan,
The answer here in the US is ArtCraft
http://www.artcraftchemicals.com/products/ . They're in NY state. Carry and
ship most everything photographic, current or old.
But I don't know what restrictions there are on shipping to our northern
neighbor, but they've been in business a long time, so probably know how and
how expensive it is to ship to you.

Hello all,

We've been discussing chemicals for the past while and it brings to mind a
problem that we as group, pure silver photographers who live and die with
the chemicals they use are facing... I don't know about the situation in
the US and the UK, but in Canada, it is getting harder and harder to get the
chemicals we use. The chem section in any photo store is a pittance..
unless you live in NYC or LA, I imagine..... then what about getting the
raw chemicals and mixing your own solutions. Until last year, in Montreal
we had a chemist who supplied the photographic chemicals you needed, even
for color, E-6, and in quantities that you needed, 10 grams, 100ml or but
she closed down because of a lack of customers and inventory wasn't moving.
Now I buy a 25kg bag of Sodium Thiosulfate from a chemistry factory, but
that stores easily and goes quickly. But if I need Amidol???

We are addicted to a bunch of chemicals. Is there a list somewhere that
gives the commercial names/product names of the very chemicals that we use,
like the example of Arm&Hammer baking soda/Sodium BiCarbonate...... You can
get Sodium Thiosdulfate at the swimming pool supplier.... what can you get
at the grocery or hardware store, the pharmacy???

Maybe it was on this list, a long time ago or another, seems there was list
complied of commercial household chemicals that suited our needs, perhaps in
different dilutions but still available.

What mailorder photographic chem houses are there in the US? For me, of
course, there is the transborder shipping and restrictions.

Cheers,
Bogdan
