Still confused. I have to mark the portions or passages I think I
will be using in my reports as I record. Would that be possible on
the PTR2? I have been lead to believe that when one presses at least
the Heading Key, a new file results. Can one vaerify that, as I
don't yet have a PTR2, and my PTR1 never worked correctly in many
respects. I had a lot of trouble with it; it was defecive from the
get-go, but the dealer refused to replace it.

As far as I am aware, this is not the case. Each time you press the heading or page key when still recording, this is simply noting a timing marker to tell the DAISY system where the start of a section or page is to be - it does not generate a new audio file. You will, however, get a new audio file if you stop recording and then start a new recording.
As I am not a radio journalist, I can't comment on whether the PTR2 is or is not an appropriate tool but you are correct in your understanding of what I was saying about what happens to the underlying audio files when you edit on the PTR2. That is why I was suggesting that one would be best to do any editing on a PC if the audio files are to be used away from the DAISY original recording.

Are you saying that when one cuts or joins sections or phrases in recorded files on the PTR2, there is no change in the underlying .wav (or MP3) files? Would the PTR2, therefore, be impractical for a blind radio journalist?
I gather, also, that it is not possible to time a section or page, but only either a Daisy title or a full CF card or CD. If so, that's really too bad. Given the inaccessibility of most CF recorders, I had hoped to be able to use the PTR2 instead of my minidisc recorder--which now forces me to dub all material in real time before editing it on the computer. I believe while some people may feel comfortable with memorizing menus, I resent having to muddle through using conventional CF recorders, while my sighted colleagues have all kinds of features at their disposal. That's why I was hoping to be able to take advantage of some of the PTR2's features, despite the fact that it is primarily a Daisy recorder.
