Did anyone mention Adobe 8 standard, not the reader? It tries to use OCRwhen accessibility feature is turned on. I recently tried out, and it does adecent job.

It comes packaged with OCR (which makes it a large download).

Note that

the Google Tesseract OCR used is the best free OCR at this time,

but it

is not as good as commercial OCR software.

There was a converter from Jamal that could convert and do ocr,
but I could not find it on the empowermentzone.com site, only an
old dos version that did not have the features I saw in the
email.

There are a lot out there, I like using pdftotext or pdftohtml
Just use apt if you are on linux to install them:
apt-get install poppler-utils
Should get pdftohtml and pdftotext...

HTH, and just google for a win version since I dunno about that.
