Each router is different. However, generally if u type its IP address int2 your browser & go to advanced setup or something similar, it'll tell u if the router is equipped w/a firewall by listing an option to change firewall settings. Alternatively, its manual should tell u this. Avast has saved my bacon on more than 1 occasion & is accessible via the right-click menu w/an occasional need for jaws cursoring. Malwarebytes comes in a free, e.g., scan-on-demand version, & a paid realtime protection version. Be careful about putting 2 realtime protection programs on your machine that try to protect from the same threats, else a cyber-tug-of-war may well ensue, neither program can do its intended job, & your protection is actually lessened as a result. SpywareBlaster is a free, realtime spyware protector. Spybott Search-&-Destroy also is free & provides some realtime protection. Superantispyware has both a free & paid version--same sort of thing as Malwarebytes--& is very very accessible. I've not found a really good accessible firewall solution, but, check to see if your router has 1 built in. The advantage there is that your processor power isn't taken up w/firewall tasks. AVG is also nice, (and also accessible, with more jaws cursor work). ----- Original Message -----From: "DaShiell, Jude T. Among these are avg; zone alarm, and ad aware and it doesn't matter whether real moneywas paid for your screen reader either. Since on some of the machines Iuse are win 98 machines they'll not run the popular stuff either. What they will run is clamwin though and I've found that pretty accessible. The clamwin package is a port of the linux clamav package and now has some spyware killing capability. Another package that comes with high ratings from security professionals I talk with is malware bites but I don't know much about its accessibility status. The security professional I talk to doesn't consider avg; zone alarm, MacCaffey's or Norton to be worth paying for either. I'm pretty sure he did buy malware bites package though. -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Jaquiss Sent: Monday, May 10, 2010 11:34 To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Looking for good replacement for Windows OneCare Hello List: For about three years, I have been using Windows Live OneCare for its firewall, antivirus scanning and backup facilities. Microsoft is no longer renewing OneCare, so I need to find something else. I am running Windows XP Home and use JAWS 11. I need to replace all three functions of virus scanning, firewall and backup. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
