I haven't been on dial-up in so long I've forgotten everything about it, so all I've got is try and disable the AV software. While mine loads (either at startup or enabling it after I've shut it down), there's a really long wait and I can't click ANYTHING during that time. But it's not 3 minutes. Is the CPU sufficient enough for a WinModem? Has it always done this or this event recent? -Clint God Bless, Clint Hamilton, Owner www.OrpheusComputing.com www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com www.OrpheusComputing.com/cheap_reliable_web_hosting.html www.OrpheusComputing.com/PCworks-computer-help-email-list.html ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Kaulback" A friend with an emachines computer is experiencing up to a 3 minute lag when he dials a connection through the winmodem. Nothing responds and there is no traffic in or out yet there is 100% cpu usage during this lag period. The computer is about 5 years old and is equipped with xp home. Incidentally, if any browser is used to start the connection it won't come up until after the lag breaks. Any ideas?
