its like having a portable drive.  and works just like a HDD when plugged in 
the USB - no software req'd 
you can add, delete, cut, paste what ever and they come in various sises - I 
found a 512 memorex at 
the diollar store - yep never go there until a friend w/o a computer that does 
saw them there and it cost 
me $0.99 I bought both of them!
 
At Fry's and Best Buy they are quite inexpensive considering.
 
if you have a digital camera with a flash memory card you can use that too - 
done that before i got my first 
memory stick (which is also flash memory).
