Just stepping in here... My Toshiba notebook came with Vista Home Basic pre
installed. It came with a Product Recovery cd and I have no idea what it
does... So just in case I ever need it I am downloading this MS windows
vista recovery one. BitTorrent says it will take 4 hours to download...
that is if connection doesn´t fall during this time! I´ve never burned an
ISO but will see the help files on the website. If I run into trouble will
holler :o))

Patti,
Then you have an OEM installation, but you also have actual possession
of the disk (which is always good to hear). Unfortunately, OEM install
disks don't normally have the ability to perform a Recovery installation to
replace missing or corrupted system files like a regular Retail disk can.
However, I just recently ran across an article that proclaimes that MS had
recently released a supplimental tool that allows you to burn your own
Restore disk for use with these OEM install DVDs. You can read about it
(and even download it if you understand Torrent files) at the link below. I
have downloaded it myself for use on service calls, but I have no way of
testing it here (there's no 'proper' Vista installation here), so I have no
idea what functions it supports other than those hinted at within the
article.

I'm trying to locate a non-torrent based copy of it for you (& others)
and will let you know if I'm successful. In the meantime, ask your SIL
(what does that stand for, by the way?) if he has a Retail copy of Vista
that you can use for its "Recovery" abilities. Also let him know that I
wish him a speedy recovery. :O)

Peace,
Gman
