----- Original Message ----- From: jo i've been stuck with 16 colours for a while now and none of my photo apps work. my handbook says nothing at all about an accelerator and ive looked inside [being more h/w than s/w] but can't see anything that is not illustrated in the h/b. this wording [or something like it] is the first thing to flashup on the screen on bootup "sis pci true color". then comes the bootup header and bios warning, so it must be just before or just after win loading [to fast for me to be sure] that i can sometimes see, if the page hesitation allows, -auxilliary device port - s/w multiple for dynamic resolution is - 'off' - belarc tells me that i have - - sis graphics and video accelerator - 4mb video memory [shared mem bios ver.1.04 12-08-97] - support vesa bios ext. ver.2.0. i've downloaded several drivers from the sis page that i hoped were a match and put them into win sys to no avail. Can anyone add to the identity of my accelerator and advise how to obtain and install drivers for it; i'm sure 'lost drivers' are my problem. this accelerator doesnot show in device manager and none of my attempts to force it in 'add h/w' have been successful. my os is w98 any help gratefully received - jo Have you tried right-clicking on the dekstop and selecting PROPERTIES and then the SETTINGS tab? That's where you would change the resolution and colors. ---Troth Ever time I format I am stuck with 16 colors until I install the display driver, I have the Diamond Stealth III S540. Maybe reinstalling your display driver will fix it. Sincerely Yours, Hank NEW HI Troth and Hank - every time i try as you suggest, or anything AT ALL, to change the status quo, which is '16 colors, 800x600 [or smaller] ', i am asked to restart. if i don't nothing happens, if i do i inevitably get a warning as soon as the boot gets into windows. it says something to the effect that there is something wrong with the display set-up and puts up the display change window EVERY TIME - 'CATCH 22' I get out of this by stopping bios and disabling 'onboard video' which is all i have and then setting up 'SVGA' when i am asked to. this is the best i can get anything else is rejected. next time i look, 'onboard' has been enabled. i need help in identifying the accelerator i have and finding and INSTALLING the right drivers which i have somehow lost and are not available in 'plug and pray' help jo To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ For more info: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk
