Hank/Nightseek
If the pit is just selling by the yardage, the they probably do not know
what the weight per ton, since they will not have scales at the pit.
I also want to add to my last email to you Nightseek, there is a difference
between Cubic yardage from loose truck yardage. The figures I gave you is
for in place cubic yardage. A loose truck yard, take more of to fill a cubic
in place yard. For example, if you were dealing with a sandy clay type
material, then a cubic yard in place will take aprox. 1 1/2 loose truck
yards. truck yardage is what most sellers will charge you. So if they tell
you 5.00 a yard, then you are paying 7.50 for in place cubic yardage.
Concrete (With water added ) is generally pound per pound, in other words,
if you buy a yard of ready mix then you will l fill a yard of in place area,
but if filling a slab, you would need to figure some yield, so if need 100
yards, then you would order 110 yards for loss/shrinkage
If just getting 3 yards this would not be necessary
Hope this helps
Clint
