When cleaning up an older system, back up everything you wish to save and then wipe/reinstall Windows. I usually just back up the registry to a single .REG file, back up all files & folders to an external drive and then sort it out later so won't miss anything. Taking the system back to a completely fresh start is the only way to truly guage how useful the system could be as a second computer (or as a perfect test system, if you're so inclined).
