Thanks, Rob.....I just got home from Carol's house. It took HOURS to get the basic system stable in part due to an incomplete Norton download. The virus scan showed no viruses. However, with the floppy drive, I can read the directory but not open a file. The CDWRW I uninstalled the driver first thing. The drive would not open.
