First, if you boot up in safe mood, you only get the most basic of drivers for the PC to work ,so you get no decent graphics drivers or CD ROM drivers etc. Turn off the pc, remove the ribbon and power cable to the CD drive, and also the ribbon cable for the motherboard. Turn the machine on and remove any reference to it in the device manager. ( Also uninstall any CD burning software, making notes of serial numbers etc. Only do this if you are sure of serial numbers etc) Turn the machine off and make sure all the connections are clean etc and dust free etc. Reboot the machine and see what happens when you try to read a CD only in the drive. If that works try the burning software etc also. If that fails, find a friend to let you try the CD ROM drive in a another computer and see what happens then in case it is a hard ware problem with that drive. Other than that I am also at a loss, sorry, Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- Since it's not available in safe mode maybe the trouble is not software. Is the CD-RW showing up in the BIOS? Try installing it in another system to see if it's picked by Windows then.
