Sigh...

Just like with cars, I like technology when it works and when it helps me.
When it fails, I rarely can do anything under the hood.

Now I think my trusty old Sony DRU 500A CD/DVD burner has died. It refuses
to burn CDRs and DVDRs. I have tried different brands of discs and different
types of data (MP3, wave files for CDRs and ISOs and DVD-VOBs for DVDRs).
Always the same error message in Nero:

For DVDR burning, the error message is:
"Length of parameter list is wrong"

For CDR burning, the error message is:
"Disc is not writeable."

I have done some things to check; rebooted the 'puter, tried several
different brands of discs, tried both Nero 7 and EAC to burn audio, to no
avail. No system changes lately. Googling didnt turn up anything useful. I
can play audio and rip music CDs, and the unit is recognised physically by
my computer, however it is quite old (I think 2002 or 2003, and been in
daily use, so say the least) and I suspect it might be dying. Am I right?
