How are the drives (IDE channel/Master - Slave) configured? Some ideas from friends: If the Maxtor w/the 5gig C: drive is IDE 1 Master drive - primary drive partition and your Fujitsu HD was the D: - IDE 1 Slave - primary drive partition and the 35 gig partition would have been your E: - remaining space on the IDE Master - secondary or extended partition. CD-RW IDE 2 Master CR-ROM IDE 2 Slave It is easy to assume that if you partition your IDE 1 Master drive that it will be the C and D drives, but it has been my experience that this is only the case when you have no slave HD on the same IDE channel. If both HDs are on the same channel the drive letters get mixed. If the Fujitsu HD failed and could not be read by the OS then the 35 gig partition of the master drive would then assume the D: logical drive designation and the cd-rom and cd-rw drive letters would also move up one.
