[pchelpers] strange thing happened

hello to all,
My daughter's PC is a matsonic board, and an Athlon 2000 cpu with 256 ddr ram.
It has 2 HDDs, on a 40 gig maxtor partitioned at 5 gig c drive, and a 35 gig d
drive. There is also a 30 gig Fujistu HDD. A CD rom and CDRW drives.
for some reason , the D and E drives appeared to have swapped the files that
where on them, and the Fujitsu drive diasappeared from the system.
On boot up, the following message came up
Secondry master HDD error
Pri slave drive atapi incompatable
Sec slave drive atapi imcompatable
F1 to resume
I've stripped out everthing but the 40 gig maxtor and ran scandisc, on C, no
errors or bad clusters
D drive stopped scanning for some reason, and I'm trying to run it again.
after which I will format D and start putting back drives as and when I get it
to work correctly with only one HDD in.
any advise or suggestions?
