I will not be able to meet Wednesday or Thursday this week. I am getting
ready to leave for VCB on Friday and getting my daughter ready for a trip. My
schedule will be clear the week of August 22nd. I will be off, but in the
city, from 8/29 until school starts.

Mike,

It’s not accurate to say that our focusis only Manhattan. The list we
submitted, which included many of your Brooklynlocations went to Newman who is
Chief of Staff to the City Commissioner. Sheis also the person from whom I
requested an update and an explanation as to whythey are coming out with 30
planned installations when the original commitment hadbeen for 100. The 23rd
and 7th issue came up, becausewe were told they were going to do it and we saw
problems in the way that the installationwas planned. In every communication
with them, we have stated that we wereresponding in detail to this one in hopes
that it could be a model for the way wewould work together around aps
installations in general. The training thatDOT is planning for themselves this
fall is for the whole DOT, not just Manhattan.

I would like to request that this steeringcommittee plan a meeting, so that we
can hash out these issues and come up withsome strategies going forward.
Joyce, do you think you could get us the boardroom or some other space at Selis
on an evening the week of the 15th? Would you be able to schedule something for
us?

We need to come together, so we don’tbecome a bunch of little islands thinking
that each is working only in his/her ownselfinterest.

Mike, could you please find out who is hostingthe ACBNY site and let me know,?

Thanks to all.

Karen

Sorry Gene I knownothing about building websites and really don’t have the time
to learnright now.

The reason I bringto this list the work I am doing in Brooklynis because I want
a wide spread effort to install APS throughout NYC not juston 23rd and 7th
where the efforts seem to beconcentrated. I submitted a list that has gone
unaddressed except for therequest to narrow. Fact is, we as a coalitions have
been workingwith the Manhattan DOT commissioner and not the NYC DOT
commissioner where I believeour efforts should be concentrated thus mandating a
city wide effort not asingle borough effort. Please don’t misunderstand me the
educationfor the Manhattan DOT will go far in assisting them in understanding
our issue;however, we really must understand the Manhattan DOT only works and
cares aboutManhattan notinforming their colleagues of the issue.

Thanks for yourunderstanding,
Mike

Subject: [passcoalition] mission

Mike,

I believe our mission already covers many topics related tosafe travel
environments. The difficulty is, of course, that we are asmall groups with an
even smaller number of people actually doing direct work. It's not our mission,
but how much we can practically take on, thatrestricts us. We don't have a
group of interns to work for us. We have afew of us spending many hours trying
to effect change. And our focusedgoals right now are already a challenge.

I wish that your agency had collaborated with PASS on the Brooklyn project you
are spearheading. Instead wenow have efforts for many APS in a small area of
Brooklyn, while PASS advocates for the best widespread installation of APS
acrossthe city. This doesn't seem like a coordinated and effective approach.

Karen and I have discussed the website numerous times, andI am trying to find
the time to identify an affordable (very affordable) sitewith a good
site-builder facility. Maybe someone else want to take thison. Mike, if you
can do it faster and more efficiently, go for it. And let me know how I can
help.

Thanks.

Gene
