What is NID ? We didn't have to use it during RMAN Duplicates.

I duplicate the target to the auxiliary of a different name then I use NID
to change the dbid. I will check to see if I can really avoid using NID
the next time I duplicate my database.

Like Ruth mentioned, the NID utility can change both the db name and
dbid --> 9i only though. It is simple to use.
In a pinch, you can tar and move a db + related software to a new box
and use nid to rename/re-id it, then rman can be used successfully etc.
