No, I'm not able to read stamps. I just tried, the other day, because I
bought some stamps and didn't ask whether they were the "Forever" stamps.
But, by looking at them, I can't tell. As you said, I used to be able to
find the amount and cent sign on the stamp, but can't do that, now.

Subject: [optacon-l] paperless living, and reading small items

Mary L and list,

Yes, paperless bills are definitely a plus; all my bills come to me online
and are paid that way. I have so little mail these days that the mail
carrier commented about it. I suspect we all get less mail due to the
economy; I heard a news item last week indicating that the U.S. postal
service is considering (again!) not delivering on Saturdays; usually that
idea gets tossed out, but maybe this time it will happen.

Reading postage stamps has been a challenge; sometimes it's been easy to see
the word "USA" in upper case, and below it, the number of cents followed by
the cents sign. These days, though, I guess the color is different because
it's not easy to figure out the amount. The cost of postage keeps going up.
There are "forever" stamps, which I haven't purchased, but apparently
they're quite popular. Has anybody figured out any techniques for reading
stamps and other small items?

Mary
