I haven't used the backpack for a long time, but I still have it, I used to
use it to bring the oacon with me on a flight as I moved around a bit in the
late nineties. I haven't used the mat in a while but I used to, now I just
put the book on a placemat or something or the letter or whatever.
Warmest regards to all, and tell me everyone...what did you use your
optaconfor today, I don't care what it was but I'm curious, and if you
didn't use it, be honest--smile.
I have been trying to read a page or so of a book that I choose at random
every day to improve my reading speed or just look at envelpes of letters to
see where they are from and sometimes I can just throw it away before I open
it as it's junk.
Now what about that terrible glossy paper they put on magazines and fliers
you get in the mail, any luck with that?

My optacon came with two rubber mats, a large one and a small one. I still
use them to stop documents slipping.
When the backpack that accompanied my optacon began falling apart, and the
lining started disintegrating, I took the whole thing apart and relined it
and restitched it by hand. It wasn't an easy job, but it's held now for
several years.

Never thought of putting a kind of leather conditioning on the case of
the optacon. When I had a guide dog, I used it for the harness. Not
a bad idea to treat the actual leather case.
