What I mean is you (in effect) claimed the display would/could not do justice to HD content because it cannot display it correctly even though it has the "regulation" pixel count. Does that mean that anyone can produce a display, and claim it is HD capable solely on the pixel count alone, even if it cannot utilize all the pixels? I understand all plasma screens must rescale content and therefore may/will not utilize the total pixel count 100% efficiently. This is the Panasonic PT40LC12. It has deinterlacing and 3:2 pulldown and 3D decoding, as far as I know that's all. It does have a "sharpness" control that can either be turned off or actually works fairly well on some material. Now the sound from the built-in speakers, that's a different matter. It has a jillion ways to screw with it (incuding leaving it alone). >=20 > "If you use the full 1024 horizontally, you need only 576 pixels=3D20 > vertically, which is far less than a megapixel." >=20 > When you say "need" are you saying it will only then utilize 576 pixels > vertically? But this would only be on PAL content. What about 720p? etc. You could still use only 576 pixels vertically on 720p material, as that is all that can be used for a 16:9 picture. Same for 1080i. >=20 > So I could, according to your rules, claim to have an HD display if it > had 1 million pixels even if it always turned them on in groups of three > with identical information.=20 I have no idea what you mean.
