If you're getting your digital television from Comcast, they're going in the opposite direction. The switchover to H.264 has delivered the most hideous HD I've ever seen. They've down sampled all the HD channels (except locals) to 720p and the average H.264 bit-rate is about 3.5 Mbps. The "sparkle" is gone and it looks downright dull and not much different than SD. If you have a large TV, Comcast video quality sucks badly.
