One last thing you could try: The toner is distributed to the drum via an auger within the cartridge. As the toner depletes, there may be faded or blank spots on the page. Pull the cartridge, tip it sideways and give it a tap or two with your hand to distribute the toner evenly. Re-install and you might get a bit more life out of it. The gears on the side of the cartridge turn the auger. If they are really worn, or not meshing with the printer gears, you won't get enough toner on the drum and a faded copy. Another possible reason to limit refills on a cartridge.

Doug, that’s an interesting idea.

In my case, it still prints but it is very faded.

I'm curious what you are experiencing with "refilled" toner cartridges. Here is my experience:

What I bought for my printer is a "chip reset " that puts your printer calcs back to 100% after you refill your cartridge. I do my own cartridge refills and reset each time. You need the correct chip reset for your machine, and if you get a refilled one from a 3rd party provider, they may not have reset it correctly for your machine. This could be the reason for the different numbers of pages you can print, maybe. The printer may think the cartridge is empty and refuse to print more, even if there is still ink in it...Doug F
