I will 3rd this suggestion. Virtual machines are the best way to
restore a system to a base state in the least amount of time. If you
direct your web browser to http://www.vmware.com/products/ws/ you will
find what you are looking for. The only OS not supported are Macintosh
operating systems. I use this product to package software and build
patches. The only other requirement is that you have the installation
CD(s) for the operating environment you want to virtualize. A copy of
Windows XP Professional for example.

Virtual Computer is definetly the way to go!
Microsoft made the Virtual machine FREE a little while back and you can
down load it from microsoft.

There is another way , a comercial program called DEEP FREEZE.
http://www.faronics.com/index.asp

Which allows you to do what ever you like , including deleting system
files and when you reboot all is back as it was!

Best tool ever created for this is to use virtual machines and don't
save=20
any changes made in the virtual machine when you shutdown. Each student

gets an exact copy of the "system" and if they mess it up, they simply=20
shutdown their system and restart. It's a good idea if the student data
is=20
kept on the host machine or on a host network, but you can also limit
the=20
amount of other activities that are allowed during the class.

  Incidentally the host machine in this scenario has only a limited
amount=20
of permissions allowed, but on the guest machine they can be a full
admin or=20
just a regular user.

  Does anybody work in a small training room.

I am training Microsoft Office applications, and currently work a
procedure
where during demonstrations and exercises students make a change to
settings
and then return the settings to their initial state. This works most of
the
time, but not always.

I do not have direct access to servers and our IT department are so
short of
staff they cannot give me any support in this matter.

What options do any of you that are trainers have to "Reset" your
software
applications to a standard "Start status", bearing the above in mind.

Any help / guidance would be very much appreciated.

Norman Pearce
