[mso] Re: Office 2003

The only thing I would add to Linda's comments is that to mix PST files from
OL2003 with older versions, OL2003 *must* be set up to use the older-style
of PST file format.
A fresh install of OL2003 defaults to the new, Unicode format (well worth
having, I might add), but the older type can be specified when creating a
new PST file.

Regards

:I'm not sure of all the answers to this, but so far, I've
     :been able to share
:my Excel and Word files between Office 2000 and Office
     :2003 without a
     :problem. I haven't tried to open a 2003 pst in 2000, but
     :I HAVE successfully
:done this between 2002 and 2003 and between 2000 and 2002
     :so I wouldn't
:assume there would be a problem. PowerPoint 2002/2003
     :files can certainly be
:opened and edited in 2000 but some of the advanced
     :animation features won't
:work..but you can install the newest PowerPoint viewer
     :from Microsoft on the
:laptop and be able to view them. The version of Windows
     :doesn't matter when
:it comes to running the actual documents created in 2003,
     :it only matters
     :when installing the actual programs.
     :
     :Hope that helps.

     :Thanks. Bummer to be sure...
     :
:Next question: Will Office '03 play nicely with Office
     :2000 in terms of
:reading files from Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. Also,
     :will the *.pst files
:be able to be moved from xp machines to a laptop with
     :Office 2K and Outlook
     :2K, and Win98SE?
     :
:Basically, my company provides me with a laptop they've
     :been slow to upgrade
:but I like to run Outlook on the road and I move the
     :*.pst around between
:computers to keep my mail updated depending upon whether
     :I'm at home or on
     :the road.
     :
     :Thanks
