Ray, I'm wondering if there is a backup schedule to help ensure should
there be any problems whatsoever, that the data and forms can be recovered.
A major backup should be done before any changes, and thereafter, some kind
of schedule in place. I use the task scheduler to copy my data tables each
night to hidden locations and that has come in handy on more than one
occasion. Not sure how often your data changes, but if some of the users
will be actually doing the data entry and the rest of the users just doing
read only lookups, the forms for data entry can be password protected, and
they will ride with the database, regardless of pc setup, so only the
authorized people can get in to edit/add the data itself.

And converting the frontend to .mde will ensure any
forms/reports/design/code is protected from changes and/or copying.

Hi David,

<<Need to check the permissions on the directory and the file. I suspect
that
they are too lax.>>

The operating system is WinXP Home. I thought it wasn't possible to set
permissions on a directory (folder) within WinXP Home. Can you tell me how
to
set permissions on a file or a folder in a way that could not be undone by
any
user?

Also, remember that the PC is not networked and is not connected to the
internet. It is a stand-alone PC in a public place where anyone can reboot.

The only security measure is that the one account which has administrator
privileges is password-protected. The public account has no administrator
privilege and no password. The machine is intended to be usable by the
general
public.

I have passed along the previous comments, and am awaiting the results of
splitting the Access DB into a front end for reports and queries and a back

end for tables.
