Help needed - sending email messages from Outlook results in the
following message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

      Subject: test

      Sent: 4/17/2003 9:32 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

      'xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx' on 4/17/2003 9:32 AM

553 To send mail, first check your mail with a valid POP
account; this prevents unauthorized SPAM relaying. (#5.7.1)

A church staff member is having this problem on her MS Office Xp laptop.
It frequently gets connected to "unknown-configured" intranets and
exhibits this problem usually after getting back to her
"known-configured" intranet that is serviced via a gateway to the
internet.

List of related(?) facts:

1: She can download (read) email messages from the account just fine.
She is only having problems sending messages.

2: I've disabled Norton so it does not scan outbound email messages.

3: The servers for her account are: Incoming (POP3) pop.mindspring.com
and Outgoing (SMTP) smtp.earthlink.net

3: I can setup her email account on my MS Office Xp installation and
perform BOTH sends and receives. I think this proves the SMTP server is
running okay.

4: On her laptop, I delete the email account and re-create it from
scratch. No effect -- she still gets the error when sending messages.
I think this proves it has something to do with a configuration setting
on her laptop, outside the account information.

5: I add my email account to her machine and she can perform sends just
fine. I think this proves her laptop is capable of communicating with
an SMTP server.

6: We've tried sending messages to many different email addresses; it
doesn't work for any of them.

At this point I'm attempting to understand if this error is generated by
Outlook. Please help if you can.
