Does this help?

Example 1 - the reported error is of the following form:
"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was =
rejected by
the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'username@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'.
Subject 'subject', Account: 'oceanfree account', Server:
'smtp.oceanfree.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553. To send =
mail,
first check your mail with a valid POP account; this prevents =
unauthorized
SPAM relaying. (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553,
Error Number: 0x800CCC79"=20

Solution: If you start Outlook Express after connecting to the Oceanfree
service in general you will not experience this error message. This is
because OE at start-up automatically logs on to the server to download =
email
prior to sending any email thereby establishing the authorisation of the
sender. Similarly, if you send your email by doing a full Send/Receive =
in OE
you should not experience any difficulty. If you wish to be able to send
messages without doing a full Send/Receive or if you wish to have =
Outlook
Express active on your PC prior to connecting to the Oceanfree service =
we
recommend the following modification to your Outlook Express =
configuration.=20

Start Outlook Express and go to Tools menu option and select Accounts. =
Click
on your oceanfree account and choose Properties. Select the Servers tab. =
At
the bottom of this tab in an area titled "Outgoing Mail Server" untick =
the
check box titled "My server requires authentication". Save the new =
setting
and this will ensure that the next time you use OE it will authorise =
itself
to the mail server in all circumstances thereby avoiding this error =
message.

Help needed - sending email messages from Outlook results in the =
following
message:

=20

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

=20

      Subject: test

      Sent: 4/17/2003 9:32 AM

=20

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

=20

      'xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx' on 4/17/2003 9:32 AM

553 To send mail, first check your mail with a valid POP

A church staff member is having this problem on her MS Office Xp laptop.
It frequently gets connected to "unknown-configured" intranets and =
exhibits
this problem usually after getting back to her "known-configured" =
intranet
that is serviced via a gateway to the internet.

=20

List of related(?) facts:

1: She can download (read) email messages from the account just fine.
She is only having problems sending messages.

2: I've disabled Norton so it does not scan outbound email messages.

3: The servers for her account are: Incoming (POP3) pop.mindspring.com =
and
Outgoing (SMTP) smtp.earthlink.net

3: I can setup her email account on my MS Office Xp installation and =
perform
BOTH sends and receives. I think this proves the SMTP server is running
okay.

4: On her laptop, I delete the email account and re-create it from =
scratch.
No effect -- she still gets the error when sending messages.
I think this proves it has something to do with a configuration setting =
on
her laptop, outside the account information.

5: I add my email account to her machine and she can perform sends just
fine. I think this proves her laptop is capable of communicating with =
an
SMTP server.

6: We've tried sending messages to many different email addresses; it
doesn't work for any of them.

=20

At this point I'm attempting to understand if this error is generated by
Outlook. Please help if you can.
