I'm doing this. It's logical. I've experienced the corruption thing and
the Exclusive thing. THANK YOU!

Linda (and everyone one else interested),

A front-end/back-end set up is pretty much what it sounds like. You have
all of your tables containing all of your data in one database that is
stored somewhere accessible by everyone. This is your "back-end" database.
It is simply a repository for all of your data. The "front-end" is a
separate database that contains all of the forms, queries, reports and code
to run the database. It is linked to the back-end tables. This "front-end"
is then copied to any workstation that will use it. This set up allows
multiple users to have access to the same data, without having to have them
share the same database. It reduces corruption (oops, the file won't open
any more!) and contention (Hey, I can't open this, it says Joe has exclusive
control!) in the database.

To set it up. Split your database you have created. Create a new database
and move all of your tables to it (This is your back-end). Next, create
another new database and move all of your queries, forms, reports,
macros(shudder), and modules to the new database (This is your front-end).
Now open your front-end database and click File, Get External Data, Link
Tables. Then navigate to where you have stored your back-end and link all
the necessary tables. You are now ready to go.

Hey you Access whizzes....would one of you like to give a short explanation
of this back end/front end database stuff....how it works and how you set it
up?

I, for one, would love to understand this better.

Thanks.

Pam,

Will you have more than one user in the database at any time? The first
thing I would suggest is that you separate your database into a front-end
with all of your queries, forms, reports and code and a back-end that holds
just the data.
