Harry,

That crankshaft is probably made in sections as were many of the large
reciprocating steam engine shafts. That way if a bearing goes down, only the
bad section need be replaced.   Probably cast as it would take a heck of a
big steam hammer to whop that thing in shape. Still, it must be an awsome
thing to see turning.  I see they use a crosshead just as on regular steam
engines.
