Make sure your volume is turned up and make sure that voice is not muted.
 
Also  make sure the switch on the side is enabled.

Hi all, just an update on the drowned iphone.  I have done as some of you on 
the list have suggested and pack my iphone in a sealed container surrounded by 
rice.  This has worked to a certain degree, the phone is now displaying the 
home page with all icons present and one of my colleagues can activate the apps 
present.  However, there is no sound coming from the device. Voice over is 
currently on with no announcement.  Has anyone got any suggestions?  I plan on 
leaving it packed in rice for another 24 hours.
