Bingo, Paul! From the Mississippi River to 60 miles east Tennessee is as flat as I sing and is 901. But then the earth begins to rise up and hillbillies begin with their 615 and 423 and 931. And as everyone knows, there's nothing worse than a Southern hillbilly accent. They twang, we here in the Delta drawl.

And thank you, Ursula, for your personal testimony in support of my assertion that Southerners are terribly put upon. Class, class, class -- it all comes down to class. I've often wondered whether the lower classes were just too stupid to realize that the upper classes had to be killed, or were they too decent to do it? I think the latter. While it's true, no doubt, that if the uppers didn't need servants, they'd have killed us long ago, it occurs to me that without the uppers, there'd be no servant jobs -- so maybe the reason we haven't killed them isn't because we're too decent, but because we're just as greedy and selfish and self-aggrandizing as they are. Alas. And alack. And sigh.

By coincidence, just moments ago I just got a call from someone speaking
with a very strange accent. I assured him he must have the wrong number
because I don't know anyone with an accent like that. Since the call went
to my cell phone and I get charged for incoming as well as outgoing
long-distance calls, I thought I'd better check where the call came from
because my wife is sure to ask me about it. The guy sounded as though he
was from India. I hoped he wasn't from India. Do Indians have area codes? I checked the area code: 931-200-7945. Shoot, that's where Mike lives. You
didn't just call me did you? Your number isn't 931-200-7945, is it?

Nah, 931 is Nashville, Mike's in Memphis (901) -- and a totally
different accent.
