I wonder how many Catholics don't use birth control...but I guess it is not
going to send them to you-know-where like abortion will...

I remember when I was 16 years old being asked by one of my friends (who was
15 years old and in a 'fast' crowd) if I would take a friend of hers to
Illinois (across the river from St. Louis MO) as there was someone there who
would give her an abortion...it was not yet legal (I guess--or else they had no

money and this person would do it for very little...) I remember barely even
knowing what abortion *was* but I do remember that one did NOT ever ever
even think of telling a grown-up about the situation.

I also remember when I worked for a short time in a homeless shelter so that
the couple running it could have their first (and probably only) vacation.
There was a young teen there who had (according to the person I ended up
taking her to) given herself an abortion. I only knew because she had botched
the job and there was an odd odor about her. (she did it with a clothes
hangar--she had not even known there were actually places a person could go
for
help) I asked the woman who had trained me at the local woman's shelter (I
was an active graduate student, wasn't I? <wry look>) She had, of course,
been raped by someone close to her.

Well, I have to go get Ben from Chess Club and take him to scouts where he
will, hopefully, pass his Second Class Board of Review...

He's reading Dilbert comics right now as his 'rest and relaxation' time.
Pretty sad, don't you think, for a 12-year old? On the other hand, maybe
he'll
end up as a comic book writer (he has already designed several...)

Wondering what country *I* may move to in November,
Marlena in Missouri
