Phil: I don't think the claim that kids are stupider has
anything to do with intelligence or quality of education but functions
rather as a commentary on popular culture.
Eric: My main claim was that culture had become "stupider." From this I
ventured that a "stupiderified" culture would trickle around to its
participants. Other claims, e.g., that hating Mahler is a lack of "good
taste," are not mine, though they could be profiled from what I've written.
