In a Manhattan apartment, you must vacuum at least every other day. The dust from millions of people running around, going up and down elevators, moving objects on or near the surface of the earth, sloughing off skin layers, etc., never sleeps. A robot would be quickly overwhelmed, choked in its own task. Once AI was introduced, cleaning robots and air hepafilters would start a support group which would organize into a union and there'd be a walk off. Illegal Mexican machines, stripped of their native smart chips, would increasingly be used for tasks that American robots and hepafilters "would not do." These machines would also fail and be discarded at an alarming rate.

On the other hand, it is so nice to go to the countryside where one can get away with vacuuming only once a week.
