As an undergraduate, I took a course on sources of 20th century
thought that focused on Marx, Darwin and Freud. The professor proudly
recounted how in the 70's he was denied a U.S. work visa to take up a
teaching post at a U.S. university because he taught a course on Marx.
It was a great story but I didn't take it at face value. He was one
of those professors whose stories were more interesting if they were
told after lunch.
