Hi I did a little research on this

European catv tuners have 125 channels use pal with 8mhz allocated per analog channel however it doesn't seem to be quite so easy this is because it is not in one continuous band channel 2 is around 48 mhz, channel 14 is equivilent to channel 21 broadcast a right royal pain in the ... I think there are historical reasons why it is this way.

however in the range of freqencys which coincide with the uhf broadcast band are 6 channels which the standard uk tuner settings should pickup or alternatively connecting a vcr via ariel should be enough to get at least one valid channel on the standard uk config
but so far no luck

on the plus side i have been able to conect a vcr to the composite input and watch using $mplayer /dev/avcap0

I also found this
http://v4l2spec.bytesex.org/spec/c4340.htm
which discusses the api for video4linux video driver requirements
if the avcap0 driver could comply with this a lot of applications would be able to interact with it.
opening up the videoh for myth tv usage probably :)

regards

john
