Yes -- it was. And it ~was~ an all Linux box till yesterday.
I don't mind that much about running W98, as I can finally have
my games back. My domain will soon be pointed back to my Web
host's server, & I'll upload the files. Annoying, but it means I
have a working 'puter.

> What does bios say about your drives ?

Heh. The most recent bios for this 'puter can't deal with an
80GB drive, but both Linux reports the size correctly, & W98 sees
only 33GB. Oh, well -- I don't fucking care any longer. If I do
start caring, I can download a utility from the drive manufacurer
to make W98 use it all.

> Does it recognise them ?

  Sure.

> Does bios recognise their size correctly ?

  No. See above.

  Yes. That's right.

partitions on hda ?

/swap ?

Yes. All this is moot, though.

W98/Linux, or

Heh. I hate M$, but I can't play games in Linux. Sometime
befor July I'm buying a lap-top on which (with all that virgin
hardware) I'll go back to Linux. Everything is in stasis right
now, as I'm simply waiting to have the money to make my move to
Poland.

No. Except with RH 7.2 -- it aborts early in the installing of
packages without warning. I forget the error now.

> During the various install procedures were there any warning

  No.

> The installer installed a bootmanager ?

Gentoo wouldn't -- regardless of drive -- I'd tried on both the
27GB & the 80GB.

> Have you tried the floppy disc you ought to of created during
the install ?

Gentoo wouoldn't make one, RH 7.1 made one, but wouldn't work.

tried

Only with RH 7.1, & there is not failsafe option with that
release, except with the CD.

I'm not writing Linux off, I've been a Linux user for years.
I'm only saying that I've had enough of all the hassles with all
my "outdated" hardware. Like M$, recent Linux distros don't like
the older stuff unless it works flawlessly. Minor problems which
won't effect data -- for some time, anyway -- won't cooperate.

This is all in ~my~ experience. I fully understand that I
don't know crap about 'puters, & that I'm always the one who
fucked up -- not the coders who created this or that OS or app.
I'll get over it.

Oh, I know. And I will have to dual-boot to move the files
stored on the ext2 drive to a vfat to get my files. All I'm
saying is, for the time being, I'll endure Windows. I hate it,
but it's a painful reality -- unless I want to waste many more
days just trying to get my old hardware to work adaquately.

In addition, with W98 -- guess what? I get to use the
horrendously expensive burner I'd bought a couple of years ago as
a burner. The only Linux OS I find claiming to support it is
gentoo, but, of course, I can't get gentoo to work on this
dinosaur.

Anyone want to discuss the actual questions I'd put in my
post...?

  Meph
