Philippe,

I think the observation about the L1 producing cleaner looking photos is
something I can concur with. I had the opportunity to directly compare
since I was for a time running the Nikon D80 along with my Digilux 3
which is fundamentally the same camera as the L1. At first I thought
the difference was in the optics. The difference however is in the
sensor, and what the software is doing in camera. In the end I could
not get my D80 to produce pictures which engaged me as much as the
photos produced by the Digilux and that was probably part of the reason
I offloaded the Nikon, although I did keep a few Nikon lenses.

I recently purchased a G1 and found the same qualities in the photos as
the Digilux 3, here are some samples with various lenses and the G1.

I think the micro four thirds inter-changable lens system has a lot of
potential especially coupled with EVF. The viewfinder needs to improve,
I find it comfortable in decent light as it is though. ISO on the G1 is
at least two stops better than the Digilux 3/L1. I don't know what the
new lenses are like, I'm curious about the f1.7 pancake and the Leica
macro. If the macro is anything like the Leica D 25mm Summilux it
should be a knockout picture taker. It is interesting to consider the
versatility of the camera at half the size of the L1 and 12 mpx sensor,
able to accept and meter in aperture priority mode just about any lens
you care to name. What do you really miss? The mirror slap? :)
