I think this happens when the message you want to forward has been formatted. If it winds up being sent as attachment, then, of course you will not read it in 1.49. If the formatting does not include bold, italics, font sizes, colors, etc. the message can look very much like plain text [perhaps being in a more civilized font such at Times New Roman or Arial [proportional fonts], rather than Courier [monospaced font]]. Lots of newbies, and not so new-bies, have their client set to send formatted text, when plain text would save space and be easier to deal with.
