Re: windows explorer

Okay. I certainly read over the new features when I installed version 6,
but I guess I overlooked those because, well, because I'm not as much of a
short-cut junkie as some others are. That said, it's neat to know these
keystrokes are there if I want them sometime.

Daniel, it's under what's new in Jaws 6.0 if I'm not mistaken. I may have
accidentally stumbled over this, not sure but it's something I find handy as
I am a bit of a shortcut junky.

I just went to Windows Explorer and highlighted/selected a text filename in
one folder and experimented. Control Insert 1 and up on the num row speaks
filename, file type, size, date last modified, and then goes on to say
things about track length and so forth even though it's a text file and not
an .mp3 file. I guess if it were an .mp3 file, though, it would give the
numbers for those things.

Interesting. Where'd you find out about this one?

Just to add a bit to my last post, first go to view, and check details.
also, in some instances control insert 2 will give you file size, at other
times you get file type, if I'm not mistaken. Control insert 1 through 0
will report current column headers like file type, date modified, and file
size.

Hi,

If you use jfw 6.0 and up, pressing control insert 4 on numbers row will
give you file size. Focus on the file and press hotkey to get results.

Hi Jim and list:

The most reliable way of finding file size that I know of is the way that I
described. Yes, it does require you to use the Jaws cursor. Sorry about
that. But really it's rare that I feel the need to investigate the
information to that extreme. Things were sure different back in the DOS
days, but enough said about that.

Cheers,
Dave
