Well, first of all, I never use My Computer for housekeeping or navigating my hard drive. I use Windows Explorer only. But in any case, as so many have said, if all else fails, just select or be on the thing you're curious about and look at its properties. Again, I don't often have to do that for a file, but I do use it to see about the space on a floppy and so forth. Whatever works. I was just providing the most standard thing, because it appeared that some folks didn't know you could set Windows Explorer to display filename characteristics right on the filename line, which is the most basic thing to do. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hal Pearson" <hspearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 10:53 AM Subject: Re: windows explorer Not sure why this is Daniel, but I also checked it out. You are right, but when I go to my computer, and focus on C drive, and press control insert 4 I get the amount of remaining free space. In truth I don't remember what each keystroke does, from 1 through 0 together with control, and insert key. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 11:22 AM Subject: Re: windows explorer I tried this, even though I don't have a problem in this, actually, because my file infomration is displayed with the filename, and I can make it all speak by pressing Insert 8, say line. But it sounded like a neat trick to know. However, if I am on a filename in the list files pane of Windows Explorer and do as you say, what Jaws speaks is the date the file was last modified, not its size in bytes. Any idea why? Thanks. or ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hal Pearson" <hspearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 7:50 AM Subject: Re: windows explorer Hi, If you use jfw 6.0 and up, pressing control insert 4 on numbers row will give you file size. Focus on the file and press hotkey to get results. Yes, it does require you to use the Jaws cursor. Sorry about that. But really it's rare that I feel the need to investigate the information to that extreme. Things were sure different back in the DOS days, but enough said about that.
