This is sort of a good strategy, but part of using the web is that depending
on whether you *ever* go to a page you have never been to before, you might
need some but not all things that jaws has to offer or you may find that in
the vast majority of cases, a certain setting combination optimizes your use
of jaws, but you should never set yourself to have functionable information
taken away since you may need it and if you've suppressed it, you will not
even know that you need it in the case of on mouse over anyway. The element
attribute is a subtle beast and I was delighted to see that jaws began
offering a way to get at that information and interact with it because it
brings us just that much closer to being able to use the web in the real
world. Clickable and on mouse over unfortunately are just two of the
handler types that jaws announces and provides direct navigation for and
there are a whole host of them on the web like on mouse out, on key press,
on click which is usually accomplishable with space or enter. I actually
found a link that I cannot use space on although the use of space for links
was introduced into a recent version of jaws. Enter works fine for that
link though.

Here are some safe things you can do to reduce chatter on the web.

Turn off heading announcement. You still have quick access to any headers
that are on the page.

Turn off block quotations, frames, tables and lists because they do not
provide any information you cannot directly access on a page. There are
probably some other things you can turn off, but attribute indication is
different in that without it, there is no way to know that there is an
element attribute that can be interacted with by jaws.

Well, I have to say it was this list that reminded me the feature was
available in version 5.1.
Until I read that I thought I had just been oblivious to it until now.
And, if you can go to AFB's website, you could get practice; I mean, that's
kind of what I do - find a webpage I already know from previous use, then
practice the things these guys on the list suggest in order to see which way
I prefer to have the settings.

I wonder if there is a way to leave this attribute off so we can just hear
link instead of "on mouse over link. Too bad there wasn't a way that we
could know when to turn it on. I still don't understand this idea of mouse
over. I wish there was a web page where I could practice it and get an idea
of what it is for. I have gotten to on mouse over links and hit control on
it and it will say the page did not change. So I never got a page or place
where it said on mouse over and the page had a change.
